Beypazari (Turkish: Beypazarı “The Bey’s market”) is a city located approx. 80 km west of Ankara, Turkey, and the capital of a Turkish district of the same name.
Originally a stop on the Silk Road connecting Constantinople (now Istanbul) to Baghdad, Beypazari was known as Lagania (Greek: Λαγάνια) during Roman and Byzantine times, and was a regional administrative center.
The town was conquered by Turkish troops in the 12th century, and eventually became part of the Ottoman Empire. Sites of interest include the 17th century Suluhan Caravansaray (guesthouse), and the 13th century Sultan Alaedin Mosque.
Today, the Beypazarı district has a total population of 40,000 people, one city (Beypazarı), three towns (Karaşar, Uruş, Kırbaşı) and 64 villages.
